Abby reads online. . . .
I am leaving for Atlanta tomorrow and hope to read on the 9 hour car ride there! On our way back we are going to stop in Nashville TN. So I was doing some reserch on what we could do! I came across a home of the stars tours! It says the tour will go by and stop at many country stars (encluding Taylor Swift)! It also said we might get to meet some stars! So once I read that I talked my mom into it, so we are going to try to go on the tour! I cant wait!

Mrs. Hill
Camden enjoys the website starfall.com. Every time he sees me on the computer, he says, "I want to do wetters!" (letters). He tries to sing along with the ABC song on that site and asks for it again and again!
Cory and I completed our first summer reading challenge sheet for the library program last week. He turned in his form (and so did Brennan) and received a new book and a surprise (his choice was a fake tattoo of a guitar!). We are well into our 2nd challenge sheet. Right now we're reading some books about honesty and having a little brother to share Mommy with!
I have read 7 books already this summer. I don't get a lot of time to read, so I make time just before bed and read until I fall asleep. All of the books I've read have been fictional novels, but I'm reading a book now about eating and drinking healthy. Believe it or not: I haven't had a Diet Coke since Friday, almost a week ago! And, I don't see myself having one anytime soon! According to the book I'm reading, Diet Pop is worse than regular pop! Wish me luck!

Vacation reads . . .
Hey to all you fabulous readers (welcome Hailey to our reading blog)!
We just returned from our 14 hour drive home from Destin, Fl. (Yes, it should have only taken 11 to 12 hours, but with four little ones, it took A LOT longer!
I finished three books on vacation (I know . . . it sounds like all I did was lie around the beach and read; not the case--long drives to and from instead!) Emily Giffin's Heart of the Matter, a Carly Phillips novel, and I'm just about finished with Nicholas Sparks' The Last Song. There is nothing like a good book to dive into to pass the time when anxious to get home!
I also read A to Z: Zoe and Her Zebra and The Grouchy Ladybug at least 10 times this week! That has to count for something, right? At least Camden and my nephew Kaleb LOVED it!

I read "The Whipping Boy" this weekend and started on "Island of the Blue Dolphins" on Monday. These are both books we will probably use in 5th grade when we do Book Clubs/Book Share! They are great, classic reads.
I am also reading the book "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks (Miley Cyrus is in the movie!). It's a great book so far. I plan to read a lot more on our drive to Florida and while I'm lying on the beach, enjoying my family and the beautiful weather! (We're hoping the oil doesn't reach Destin Beach while we're there!)

Summer Reading Challenge
We just finished creating our screen names and logins for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge 2010. Mrs. Hill has a copy of all screen names and passwords should you forget--Our class email address will be sent home by the end of the school year. Our login and passwords for accessing this blog will be sent home, too.
My hope is that we'll all meet the challenge this summer and blog about it weekly. I'd also enjoy meeting everyone (that is able to join us) for a summer treat half way through our goal (check back for a date, place, and time) and then again at the end of the summer to celebrate our class goal. Our goal is to read 1,000 hours as a class for June and 1,000 hours for July as a whole class, too. That would be a total of 2,000 hours of gain knowledge to better prepare everyone for 5th grade!
Travel around the world this summer right in your own bedroom or backyard! Reading a variety of materials (online newspapers for kids, online magazines for kids, books, magazine, cook books, game instructions, etc) and logging those minutes at http://www.scholastic.com/summer at the end of each day, we'll be one step closer to breaking the world reading record and a better reader, too!
